In 2012 took place the Third Mixed Commission Italy-Iraq, in a moment when the politic and economic relations between the two countries are excellent. In this occasion, some important cooperation agreements were signed by Rome and Baghdad.

  • The extension of the aid credit line for Iraq was approved for a three-year term and amount to € 400 millions (of which €100 millions already available for the Ministry of Water resources and for the Ministry of Agriculture), as it was foreseen by the bilateral Treaty of Amity, Cooperation and Partnership signed in 2007.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding on aerospace sector cooperation was signed by the Ministry of Science and Technology that strongly supported it in the light of the positive results provided by the aerospace engineering program funded by DGCS- Task Force Iraq and carried out by the professors of the Aerospace, Electrical and Energy Engineering Department of Sapienza University of Rome.

A Memorandum of Understanding on cultural cooperation was also signed and provides for the creation of an italian-iraqi cultural center.
